A Day at the Park

So the weather this past week was GORGEOUS! Perfect spring time weather. Which means...PARK TIME! After preschool on Wednesday, we met some friends for a picnic lunch and some energy burning time. So fun. And this was at Brighton...this really great park in Clinton that looks like a super huge fire engine. It has a big "platform" part that is ~5 feet off the ground, and slides, fireman ladders, steps and all kinds of stuff come off of this platform. It really is a great place. My first note of the day was that Will and his friend Joseph were sitting on a little wall by the swings, and they look so...grown. Just seeing them leaned forward with their elbows on their knees chatting away, they seriously could have been 12. (they just better not be discussing girls! ha.)

Second note of the day. Wild man Owen. He loves traffic and parking lots and being present in them. In the middle of them. Several times he would take off running for the parking lot and he'd look back over his shoulder...if I was running after him then he'd run faster into the parking lot. I also caught him a few times running out into the parking lot without looking or thinking at all about who was watching...he was lost in his own world that apparently thinks everything fun happens in a parking lot. So, there were several scoldings over the parking lot. Then, just to give me 20 more gray hairs...my friend Jenny all of a sudden yelled out and took off running towards the platform. I looked up and saw two blue-jeaned legs hanging over the side of the platform (5 feet off the ground)...and realized it was Owen. He had his fingers somehow laced into the cracks in the platform and was trying to "lower himself to the ground" just like he would if he were getting off the couch. It would have been a hard fall if he'd let go. Jenny got to him first and held him steady, and when I lowered him down he looked at us laughing. He didn't realize he was stuck with no way down. I guess his arms hadn't gotten tired yet (he is an offensive tackle in training, for those who don't know). I decided the park had about worn me out at that point so we started packing up to head for him. Owen had a fabulous time, and Mommy had about 6 panic attacks. And watching Will do all the "big boy" things...we'll...sniff...he's just growing up. Hopefully the weather should be pretty later this week and we can brave the park again. Although I definitely learned to "eat my Wheaties" on park days with Owen.
